First Convention permitting the use of audiovisual works for karaoke signed |

On the afternoon of March 10, the country’s first "Convention Permitting the Use of Audiovisual Works for Karaoke" was signed in Shanghai. More than 30 karaoke locations in Luwan District took the lead in signing the convention, which means that karaoke music users are transforming from receiving genuine passively to actively comply with it. China Audio Video Copyright Collective Management Association is the only audio-visual collective management organization in China. As of the second half of last year, the association awarded a total of 3,000 karaoke locations with the licenses for use of audio-visual copyright, and received copyright fee with a total of 170 million yuan. It is reported that Shanghai is walking in the forefront of music copyright protection, the rate of the city’s genuine karaoke music has exceeded 90% at present, and they completed more than 80% of copyright fees with more than 1,500 yuan last year. The spontaneous signing of "genuine" convention by karaoke locations was aiming at further promoting the legalization work. According to the "Convention", karaoke locations can choose three ways to implement copyright llicense, namely: to directly gain license from the Association and pay copyright fees according to convention; to gain license with the form of "group purchase" and pay by chain-type locations; or to gain collective license and collectively pay by commission representatives. |
