Hubei: IP cases regarded in Wuhan

Intellectual property (IP) is attracting more and more attention from the public and IP cases are increasing. It is learnt that, in 2009, there were 635 IP cases heard and solved in Wuhan Intermediate People's Court, 90% increased by comparing to the same period last year.

During the 12th Session of 12th Wuhan Municipal People's Congress, Chief Judge of Wuhan Intermediate People's Court Zhang Hejie said in the report that, in 2009, Wuhan attached great importance to IP cases and consummated the IP case hearing model of "three in one", that is, criminal, civil and administrative hearings. Wuhan Intermediate People's Court also cooperated with Wuhan Municipal Intellectual Property Office to push the IP protection and aid system, reinforcing the force on IP protection.

As for the IP cases in 2009, Wuhan Intermediate People's Court put emphasis on the judicial protection to trade secret and maintained the core competitiveness of enterprises. Besides, it also worked out counter-measures against the increasing videos infringements by net bars and strove to achieve balance among right owners, users and the public, said Zhang Hejie.

In 2009, Wuhan successfully addressed a series of big IP cases, including the criminal case of a Tianjin company and related principals illegally obtaining a big enterprise's core technical secret. The infringement case sued by a legal software user was specified as one of the 50 typical cases in Chinese IP judicial protection history.
